If Christ is the Door, you are the doorkeeper to open or close it for others.

If He is the Light of the world, you are the bearer of thast light to the end of the earth.

If He is the Vine, you are the fruit-bearing branch that draws life from the vine.

If He is the Bread of Life, you are to break it to feed those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.

If He is the Truth, you are the truth bearer, the messenger of truth.

If He is the Bright and Morning Star, you are to brush aside the clouds that veil His beauty from the world that humanity may see and live forever.

O glorious truth, that we are an indispensable part of the great plan and program of the Father.

Have you observed that in the church some stay at the bottom of Christian service while others rise to the top?

Jesus said, “If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Matthew 17:20

Success is far more likely with faith and confidence than with doubt and insecurity.
In our failures we can often see a cause and effect relationship. When there is little faith there is little effort, and where there is little effort there is little result.

There is no place where “I can” is needed more than in the work of the church. With faith in God and determination of will we an say with the apostle Paul, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”

When nothing seems to help, go back and look at a stone cutter hammering away
at his rock. He may strike with force a hundred times without so much as seeing a
crack showing in it. Yet at the one hundred one blow it will split in two, and I know
that it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

So if you seem weary—KEEP ON HAMMERING!!

“Guaranteed for life” Whenever we find this description on the label of some article we are persuaded that it must be a good buy, for we have an eye for things that last.

No doubt durability would be a far better measure of worth than is our modern standard of “how much does it cost?” Such a standard would give us a sense of stability in these times of crises and change. It is reported that in the days of the French Revolution, Jean Bon St. Anare threatened a peasant, “I will have all your steeples pulled down, that you may no longer have an object by which you may be reminded of your old superstitions.

“But,” replied the peasant, “you can’t help leaving us the stars.”

Reverence, worship, and the heart’s search for God are more durable then steeples. The best purposes for which we work outlast the money we earn while working. The influences we leave upon our friends survive the moments we spend with them. The spirit by which we live outlasts the flesh in which we live. “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them,”

There is great joy in laboring in a cause that will survive us and trusting in a life thatis guaranteed for Eternity.

One of the favorite sayings of the late V.E. Howard on his World Radio program was, “Are you listening?”

When the alarm clock went off in the morning no one opened their eyes. Not a stir. The fact is, no one had set his mind to really want to get up, so naturally no one responded.

A mother’s call rang out in the neighborhood, but no one answered. Maybe the children were out of hearing distance, or close by but didn’t want to hear because they were too busy having fun.

In a fire station, the ringing of a bell starts things happening fast! Less than three seconds after the first sound of the bell, firemen are getting into their clothes. Lindsey Bryant, a veteran fireman, said that anyone can be conditioned to respond “instantly” to the “fireman’s bell.”

Response to the gospel of Christ is no different. When the Lord calls, or teaches, or admonishes, some respond with quick obedience; others seem not to hear Him. Jesus said, But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep, as I said unto you, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
(John 10:26,27).

When He calls to “repent and be baptized”, when He calls to faithful worship, when He calls to kindness and love, are YOU listening? Only those sheep who, on bearing the Lord’s voice, respond to it and act upon it, can truly say, “The Lord is my Shepherd.”
