Unless there is WITHIN us that which is ABOVE us, we will soon yield to that which is ABOUT us and sink into that which is BENEATH us. This is why Paul admonishes us to “Be not overcome with evil but overcome evil with good.”

The Biblical word is not that of Scarlet O’Hara who said, “I’ll think about that tomorrow”, but rather the words of Hebrews 4:7, “Today, after so long a time, as it is said, “Today if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.”
Lord, give me wisdom to see Thy will in preference to mine. Give me patience and refine the crudeness of this human heart, so I can tell the two apart, and let me live humbly as I ought.
Make me Thy child enough to say: “Thy will, not mine, be done this day.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY: “Lord, make me tall enough to rise above the stature and size of my own self; I would not be as selfish as this one I see within. And give me courage, too, to do the things one ought to do to save this world from suicide. I could not do it if I tried alone. And, make me calm like David in the Shepherd’s Psalm: ‘Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.’ Give me wisdom to see Thy will in preference to mine. God, give me patience and refine the crudeness of this human heart, so I can tell the two apart. May I, dear Lord, live as humbly as I ought. Make me Thy child enough to say: ‘Thy will, not mine, be done this day.’ In Thy Son’s name. Amen.” …Selected.

Quote: Once I heard a man say: “I spent twenty years trying to come to terms with my doubts. Then one day it dawned on me that I had better come to terms with my faith. Now I have passed from the agony of questions I cannot answer into the agony of answers I cannot escape….and it’s a great relief.” — D. E. Roberts

Up ahead an old model car had stalled and traffic was halted for a block. Horns sounded and angry drivers shouted unpleasant words to the embarrassed driver.
After a time, cars began to move around the unfortunate owner of the old car. Finally one driver in the long line of retarded cars drove up behind the stalled car and gave it a push. Soon it began moving under its own power and traffic got underway again.
How like life! Someone is halted by circumstances. Most people shout their maledictions upon the luckless individual and leave him to his fate. All he really needs is just a little push to help him get started along the way.
If you know someone who is mired to the axle in problems — offer him a little encouragement. Just think – without your push he may remain stalled and become discouraged for life.
