Welcome, Welcome!

Welcome, Welcome!

Without a doubt, welcoming each other is an important quality for all Christians. Note a few scriptures which will help us in this endeavor.

We know it is the Lord’s desire that all people will be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (I Tim.2:4). He extends a great invitation to “all who labor and are heavy laden” and He will provide rest (Matt.11:28-30). Jesus by the grace of God tasted death for everyone (Heb.2:9). Truly, the Lord looks upon His creation and invites everyone who hears, who is thirsty, who is willing, to take the water of life freely (Rev.22:17). The great invitation is the reason why Jesus gave the great commission – to go into all the world and preach the gospel (Mark 16:15).

In Psalm 23, the writer pictures the Lord as a wonderful host. To God he says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows” (23:5). The heavenly city is pictured as a great city with twelve gates – three on the east side, three on the north side, three on the south side and three on the west side (Rev.21:12-13). These gates are open wide to all who will receive the gospel from every corner of the earth. “Many shall come from east and west and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven” (Matt.8:11).

Salvation calls for joy (Luke 2:10-12). The Father of the prodigal explains: “It is fitting to celebrate, for this your brother was dead and is now alive; he was lost and is now found” (Luke 15:32).

The key to a hearty welcome is this: “Therefore, welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, to the glory of God” (Rom.15:7). –David
